We are passionate about Australia and want you to fall in love with it too. That’s why in this article, we explain the top reasons for considering studying and working in the land of kangaroos. Let’s go!

Reasons to Live in Australia for a Season

Very High Quality of Life

Australia enjoys a high standard of living, excellent public services, renowned education, and well-developed infrastructure. For these reasons, it always ranks among the best countries in the world to live in.

Strong and Stable Economy

Australia’s economy is solid and stable, offering multiple job and professional growth opportunities for international students. Moreover, the minimum wage is 24.10 AUD per hour, one of the highest in the world. And if that’s not enough, Australia has a strong culture of respect for labor rights.

Stunning Nature and Landscapes

It’s no secret that Australia boasts breathtaking natural beauty: white sandy beaches, the Great Barrier Reef, tropical rainforests… all of this with a temperate climate that allows you to enjoy your favorite outdoor activities year-round.

Multicultural Society

Australia welcomes people from diverse cultures and nationalities, creating a multicultural society where you’ll feel at home. This diversity is reflected in many aspects of Australians’ daily life, such as food, traditions, and celebrations. Additionally, it’s a country that promotes equality and non-discrimination.

Vibrant and Lively Cities

Melbourne, the second-largest city in Australia, has repeatedly been ranked as one of the best cities to live in. And not just that! Sydney, Gold Coast, and Perth also appear at the top of these rankings.

Quality Education

Australia’s education system is globally recognized for its high quality. Renowned universities, a wide range of academic programs, and highly qualified English schools with years of experience in the field offer you the opportunity to grow both professionally and personally.

Active Lifestyle

Aussies generally lead an active and healthy lifestyle. Lovers of outdoor sports, this country has much to offer!

Safety and Stability

You can feel very safe walking the streets of Australia, as the country has a very low crime rate. Furthermore, firearms are not allowed.

Cost of Living in Australia

The cost of living in Australia is high, but so are wages, allowing you to cover your expenses and even save to travel around the country while working with your student visa. Your expenses will largely depend on the city you live in, but here are some numbers to give you a general idea.

Housing

Accommodation will be one of your biggest expenses while living in Australia. In larger cities like Sydney and Melbourne, rents are more expensive (between 250 and 350 AUD/week for a single room). However, in cities like Adelaide or Perth, rent is more affordable (between 190 and 290 AUD/week).

You can check out the different types of accommodation available [here].

Food

As usual, eating out will cost more than cooking at home (try batch cooking on Sundays to have meals ready for the week—it never fails!). The most popular supermarkets are Coles, Woolworths, and Aldi, with the latter being the cheapest. Shop in the late afternoon to find the biggest discounts and even some free items close to their expiration date.

Download mobile apps like EatClub to enjoy discounts at nearby restaurants, both for takeaway and dine-in. Many restaurants and food stores also offer discounts late in the day.

Transportation

Again, transportation costs vary depending on the city. For example, trams in central Melbourne or Adelaide are completely free. However, in Sydney and Perth, you’ll need to pay for public transport no matter where you live. We always recommend staying close to your school or workplace to save on transportation costs—you could walk or ride a bike 🙂.

For longer distances, consider buying a second-hand motorbike or car. There’s a lot of buying and selling in Australia, so you’ll have no trouble finding a vehicle that fits your budget and needs. You can easily sell it when you return to your country!

Leisure and Entertainment

The cost of leisure and entertainment will vary based on your interests. Generally, in cities like Sydney, a movie ticket costs around 20 AUD (you’ll get a discount if you’re a member and/or student), a comedy show ticket around 40 AUD, and a martial arts class around 25 AUD. You’ll also find plenty of free activities, like reading clubs at libraries, outdoor running groups, conversation classes for international students, public exhibitions at museums, and more.

Aussie Lifestyle

The Australian lifestyle is characterized by being relaxed, active, and healthy. In Australia, work-life balance is taken very seriously, meaning people don’t live just to work—they enjoy their free time to the fullest. You’ll often hear their iconic “no worries,” a reflection of the calm and relaxed mindset of Aussies. Additionally, you’ll experience a multicultural environment where you can share a cup of high-quality coffee (Australians take pride in their coffee culture) with welcoming people. Lastly, you’ll appreciate the great value and respect they have for their natural surroundings.

Australian Cities

Australia’s cities are very diverse, so it’s important to take time to think about which one best suits your lifestyle. Our team will share information about each city, but the final choice is yours. Don’t worry, though—if you choose a school with campuses in multiple cities, you can always move once you’re in the country. All of them have a lot to offer, so enjoy!
